LDS archaeologist F. Richard Hauck, Ph.D. and the Book of Mormon Archaeological Forum (BMAF) sponsored a tour to a proposed site for Manti and the Land Nephi. This trip highlighted the new finds of archaeologist Ric Hauck as we explored along with him the Salama Valley, a candidate for the Land of Nephi complex. It is situated at the crossroads of two ancient trail/trade routes: a south to north route that linked Kaminaljuyu and the Pacific south coast via Coban with the Peten lowlands and the Yucatan to the north, and an east-west trail system that linked the Izapan coast with the Caribbean via the Polochic Valley (on the north) and the Motagua Valley (on the south).
