Olmecs, Jaredites and Quetzalcoatl
The Book of Ether, only 31 pages long, contains a brief history of the family of one Jared whose family and relatives were led to this American Continent some 1800 years prior to the time of the Nephites. In 1941 at an archaeology conference, archaeologist Matthew Sterling presented his findings of an advanced civilization which lived in Mesoamerica hundreds of years before the Mayans. His theory was met with doubt and indifference. However, as more and more evidence was uncovered, it was shown there had been such a civilization; and they had been highly advanced, militaristic and adventurous traders.

The purpose of this presentation is to show possible correlations between the ancient Olmec culture of Mexico and the Jaredites of the Book of Mormon and show that the Jaredites knew and testified of Jesus Christ and brought that knowledge and symbols with them to their land of promise. |
 The Book of Mormon does not give dates for the Jaredites in the Book of Ether. Scholars have estimated their departure date from Babylon ranging from 3,000 BC to 1,200 BC. Estimates are derived from world history dates that coincide with Jaredite history. The conservative date range, in our opinion, is between 2600 BC and 2200 BC. |
